Play and replay

Choose one mat and follow the five picture steps. An adult can read a matching challenge, such as making three cream eggs, choosing three different egg colors, or building three color-matched pairs of fossil ribs. Count and place the dough pieces, then tell a short story about the scene. Remove the dough and choose another card to change the colors or finish. The same mat is ready for another pretend discovery.

Print and prepare

You will need a printer, paper, playdough and scissors for adult use. Print on US Letter paper at 100% or Actual Size with automatic orientation: mats are landscape; the cover, guide and card pages are portrait. Protect mats with sleeves or lamination before adding dough. An adult prepares the cards, reads prompts and supervises play.
